Evolution of the Safety Grate
We developed a groundbreaking solution that not only prevented falls but also transformed confined space entry procedures
Mass Products
Our journey began in 2013 when a City of Gold Coast operator approached us with a safety challenge: the need for a circular safety grate to enhance worker safety around manholes. Collaborating closely, we developed a ground breaking solution that not only prevented falls but also transformed confined space entry procedures. By 2014, our innovation had gained traction, with a joint initiative to implement the safety grate across all City of Gold Coast operators.
Continual improvement was our mantra. In 2015, we introduced a half-door feature to facilitate maintenance tasks, followed by further enhancements in 2016 driven by Sydney Water's input. Their collaboration led to significant advancements, including nylon rollers for cable protection and a folding design for space efficiency.
The success of our innovations reached international stages in 2018, with showcases at IFAT in Germany and Weftec in the United States. This global exposure culminated in manufacturing partnerships, including one with Halliday Products in the US, marking the beginning of our expansion into international markets.
In 2021, a new challenge arose from Veolia in Brisbane, prompting us to push the boundaries once again. Extensive research and development resulted in a groundbreaking solution for high-pressure drain cleaning activities, earning recognition as a finalist in the AWA awards for safety and innovation in 2022.
While not every endeavour may claim victory, our commitment to innovation remains steadfast. The accolades continued with "Lock it out," a joint venture product with Logan Water and Downer, recognized for its excellence in isolating water supply networks under high pressure.
Looking ahead to 2023 and beyond, our focus is on global standardization and sustainability. Plans include manufacturing lightweight (Approx 5kgs) grate for CCTV activities and embracing the unknown challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. This product will be available in June-July 2024 directly from Mass Products or one of our National or International distributor's located at the bottom of the safety grate product page on our website.
Innovation, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of safety and excellence define our journey, driving us to redefine industry standards and shape the future of infrastructure safety worldwide.
